i was born in 1983 in beaverton, oregon. in june 2006 i received my bachelor of arts degree from harvard university in music. currently i am a graduate student in music history and literature in the music department at the university of california at berkeley. if all goes well, after five or six years of study and a dissertation, i will receive a phd, and eventually will have a job as a college professor. my current research interests include opera, twentieth-century music, and reception history. my primary instrument is the oboe, and i also have some background as a composer. for mp3 files of music i have performed or written please visit my sounds page. as an undergraduate at harvard, i participated in a wealth of extracurricular activities, including choir, orchestra, and opera. from my pdx days, i am an alumna of the portland youth philharmonic and of beaverton high school.

my boyfriend of more than two years, andy pollock, graduated from harvard in 2004 and received a masters of engineering from cornell in 2005; he currently lives in albany, new york, and works at conservation services group, at the office that implements the energy star program for the state of new york. my parents, mike and sue, still live in beaverton and are happy to have me back in their time zone. my twin brother david graduated from harvard along with me, and is currently studying the bassoon on a john knowles paine traveling fellowship from harvard's music department. my sister leslie is an undergraduate at the shepherd school of music at rice university, where she studies the flute.

if you want to buy me a drink, your best bet is a lemon drop, a vodka tonic or hard cider (no beer!). i like thai and indian food, trees that stay green all year long, female singer-songwriters, and tv shows on dvd.
